Mechanical strength

ASSUMPTION: If any changes in mechanical strength are observed after the experiment then tested material is not resistant to process conditions.

5 previously prepared sculls of each material were placed in the classic MES reactor making sure that all surfaces are in direct contact with the reaction solution. The reaction solution consisted of: a buffer solution (pH 6.3), a mineral solution, a vitamin solution and a electroactive microorganisms used for biofilm cultivation. Additionally, carbon dioxide was supplied to the system to ensure the closest possible conditions to the process conditions. Both electrodes were connected to an external power source giving a constant voltage of 1V. The test was conducted for 21 days, after which all the sculls were removed from the reactor and were analyzed in terms of their tensile strength (Rm), elongation (A) and Young's modulus (E). The obtained results were then  compared with the results determined for raw samples not used for experiments.
