Practical Learning about the Circular Economy at the Zero Waste Picnic

01-07-2025

On June 27, a Zero Waste Picnic took place in Brzeg Dolny as part of the NiCE - From Niche to Centre project . The event aimed to introduce residents to the concept of the circular economy and demonstrate how it can be applied in everyday life. The Centre for Research and Innovation Pro-Akademia actively supported the organizers by promoting sustainable practices and sharing its expertise on the topic.
One of the highlights of the event was a waste-sorting demonstration. A 1100-liter container filled with mixed waste was sorted into different categories. At the end of the process, it turned out that only a small portion of the waste actually belonged in the mixed waste container—most could have been redirected for recycling. This educational exercise showed participants how significant proper sorting is and how easily it can be implemented in daily routines.

The picnic also featured a variety of workshops for residents of all ages. Participants learned how to make eco-friendly cosmetics, laundry products, and natural perfumes. A particularly inspiring part of the program was the cooking demonstration using wild plants gathered during a herbal walk. For the youngest attendees, there were creative activities such as crafting wooden horses, making decorations from wood, nails, and thread, and producing reusable beeswax wraps as an alternative to plastic wrap.

We thank everyone for their enthusiastic participation in the Zero Waste Picnic and for joining us in promoting a more sustainable lifestyle!
