Policy coordination as the key to food security and environmental protection
Experts from the Research and Innovation Centre Pro-Akademia participated in the ECO-READY workshop "Delivering Impact: Building The ECO-READY Legacy For Food Systems" organised in Brussels on 28-29 January 2026. The event was attended by several dozen experts from several EU countries.
The aim of the meeting was to discuss the latest results of the project and to engage participants in developing policy recommendations and a development plan for the ECO-READY observatory, available at https://ecoready-dashboard.issel.ee.auth.gr/home.
Representatives of RIC Pro-Akademia, Dr Maksymilian Kochański and Łukasz Gontar, MSc, presented our analysis of the food system management framework in Poland, carried out as part of our EcoReadyMasuria Living Lab. They pointed to the need for better coordination of food policy that would better take into account aspects of food security, biodiversity and climate change.
As noted by Dr Maksymilian Kochański: " There are many sectoral initiatives, such as the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy, the Food Promotion Strategy, and the Framework Action Plan for Organic Food and Farming, but there is a lack of policy coherence linking the key, interrelated dimensions of the food system, i.e. food security, biodiversity and climate change”.
Workshop participants developed joint recommendations for the further development of sustainable food systems. One of the key points was to better integrate biodiversity restoration objectives and to link agricultural practices more closely to climate objectives. It is also important to design policies that support access to sustainable food and strengthen advisory services for farmers.
At the end of the meeting, new features of the observatory were presented, including the use of advanced artificial intelligence to improve user access to data. Participants also discussed a business plan that would enable the ECO-READY observatory to function as an independent entity after the end of the project.
