"Novel Synthetic Biology solutions for transforming wastes into value-added chemicals"

  • When?

02/10/2019, 12:30 CET – 13:30 CET

  • What?

The next KETBIO webinar will showcase in practice how to use novel Synthetic Biology solutions for transforming plastic and cellulosic wastes into value-added chemicals. The invited speakers from Germany and Czech Republic will present case studies of Horizon 2020 projects and related research activities that aim at valorising different waste streams. The webinar agenda is as follows:

o   Welcome and Introduction

o   P4SB: From Plastic waste to Plastic value using Pseudomonas putida Synthetic Biology

The project explored sustainable and environmentally friendly bioconversion of oil-based plastic waste into fully biodegradable counterparts by means of dedicated enzyme reactors followed by deeply engineered, whole-cell bacterial catalysts. The project approach and the challenges in valorising the gigantic plastic waste streams in the European Union and beyond will be presented by Prof. Lars M. Blank, RWTH Aachen, Germany (bio).

o   FUTURE: Re-factoring Pseudomonas putida for biosynthesis of vaIue-added polymers from cellulosic waste

The project evaluated the possibilities of forming valuable biopolymers directly from cellulosic waste. The project approach and the challenges in creating substrates for bio-based production of value-added chemicals will be presented by Dr. Pavel Dvorak, Masaryk University, Czech Republic (bio).

  • About KETBIO:

KETBIO is a HORIZON 2020 funded project that is made up of a consortium of partners from across Europe who have a wealth of experience and knowledge to support and drive the optimisation of the commercialisation of biotech research within Europe. KETBIO has a clear mission: to identify Europe`s most innovative results in biotechnology research and speed up their market uptake. KETBIO aims to bring the biotechnology community together in an interactive, vibrant forum, deploying latest technology to increase knowledge and reduce barrier to entry and interaction, and provide value-adding activities to the community. One of the focal points of the project is the set-up of the E-Academy programme of live webinars (online seminars) for shared learning and fostering new relationships within the biotech community across the EU.

This project has received funding from the European Union`s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 768570.
