Climate-resilient agriculture is key to a stable Masuria
At the EcoReadyMasuria conference, held on 17 April 2026 in Urwitałt, experts and practitioners discussed the key challenges and directions for the development of climate-resilient agriculture. Research and Innovation Centre Pro-Akademia, as a co-organiser of the event, presented research findings and moderated discussions on the role of water, soil and biodiversity in the Masuria region.
The conference ‘The Future of Agriculture in Masuria: Resilience – Biodiversity – Security’ demonstrated that the future of the region’s agriculture depends on the effective combination of scientific knowledge, farmers’ experience and well-designed public policies. Participants unanimously emphasised that climate change is already affecting agricultural production, and that the most significant challenges relate to water management, soil quality and the stability of the food system.
One of the key conclusions was that agricultural resilience cannot be based on isolated measures. It requires a comprehensive approach encompassing soil quality improvement, increased water retention, the development of adaptive practices, and better use of data and monitoring. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of biodiversity as a factor strengthening the stability and adaptive capacity of farms.
The conference also presented the results of research and experiments conducted as part of the EcoReadyMasuria Living Lab. These showed that the region possesses both the natural and social potential to develop a more resilient model of agriculture. At the same time, the need for further research, long-term testing and more effective implementation of knowledge into practice was highlighted.
The conference brought together over 60 participants, representing farmers, the scientific community, advisory services and public administration, confirming the growing importance of cross-sectoral dialogue in the context of climate change adaptation
Participants included representatives from, amongst others, the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture, the National Centre for Agricultural Support, KRUS, the Warmia-Masuria Agricultural Advisory Centre, the University of Warsaw, the University of Warmia and Mazury, the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, as well as research institutes and civil society organisations.
The high ratings from participants confirm that the event served as a valuable platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience, as well as an important reference point for further project and implementation activities.
In conclusion, the organisers emphasised the importance of continued cooperation and the continuation of activities within the EcoReadyMasuria project, which aim to strengthen the resilience of Masurian agriculture in the face of advancing climate change.
We would like to thank all participants and partners of the event, in particular the University of Warsaw, the Masurian Centre for Biodiversity and Education “KUMAK” and the Local Action Group “Lider w EGO”, for their commitment to this project.
