New patent for animal welfare

22-01-2024

We are very pleased to announce that we have received a new patent (no. P.439186) for a novel bedding material for animals. This innovative product was developed by our researchers and represents a significant advance in animal welfare and food safety. Lukasz Gontar, the principal inventor of the invention, explains:

"The composition and form of the bedding material affect animal welfare. Our invention ensures the reduction of microbial populations in bedding material, in particular Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica subsp. typhimurium and Candida albicans, which cause inflammation in animals. The material we have developed makes it possible to improve the welfare of animals kept on it, including a significant reduction in the incidence of skin lesions on chickens' feet."

The invention combines innovation with ecology. The developed solution is not only effective, but also contributes to sustainable development in poultry farming. The creators of the solution are a team of scientific and engineering employees of RIC Pro-Akademia, consisting of Łukasz Gontar, Maksymilian Kochański, Ewa Kochańska, Dariusz Zych, Monika Sitarek-Andrzeczyk, Maria Buła. Those entitled to the invention are the members of the scientific and industrial consortium implementing the PROKOKO project, i.e. CBI Pro-Akademia (Project Leader) and the company Pellets System Sp. z o.o.  The project was co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund under the Smart Growth Program. The project was implemented under the competition of the National Center for Research and Development: "Applied Projects".
